"Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14

We are excited to welcome your child and introduce him/her to Jesus Christ. We offer age appropriate classes in a safe environment with fun, creative activities and screened volunteers.

Why are kids important?

Your child is not the "church of tomorrow" but the church of today! God loves kids and wants a personal friendship with them. We count it a privilege to help introduce them to Jesus.

Our Purpose:

-To Support you as your child's spiritual hero and enable you to participate in your Sunday School class and worship

-To expose your child to attitudes, actions and an atmosphere that will begin to help form their spiritual foundations

-To present age-apprapriate activities, equipment and materials

-To create an inviting, inclusive church experience for your child with an opportunity for them to serve

-To help your child know and understand that God loves them and created them for a unique purpose

How do we choose our Children's Ministry Team?

All Children's workers are volunteers with the exception of our KidZone Pastor, Brian Eatock. He is employed at Pekin First Nazarene and oversees all volunteers. All 150+ Children's workers who are regularly scheduled go through a screening class, fill out an application, have 2 reference checks, are interviewed, and have a background check. To remain eligible to work with Pekin First Nazarene children, each person must go through the screening procedure every other year. All KidZone Team members meet with the KidZone Pastor 4 times each year for training and to remain organized. Terri Trueblood and Jenny Stevens oversees Early Childhood Director, helping with all ministries having to do with birth through Kindergarten children. Shawna March is our Preteen Director, and leads our 4th - 6th grade worship service. If you are interested in serving on the KidZone Team, contact Brian Eatock at 309.346.3053 or at beatock@pekinfirstnaz.org. For more information about KidZone, check out our Facebook group!

How does my child stay safe at Pekin First Nazarene?

It is our goal that your child enjoys their time with us AND that you are comfortable leaving them in our care. The following happens at Pekin First Nazarene regularly:

-Each child has a registration form filled out by parent/guardian with specials needs and emergency contacts

-Each child is checked in at a designated Registration Check-In center. Families are given a family pick up number that matches a name tag printed for each child in their family. Children are only released to the person(s) with their matching number. Guests are given a security number and the parent(s)/guardian(s) are given a security card that must be turned in before the child is released to the pick-up person.

-All Children's areas are cleaned after each service including toys, sheets, tables and chairs. All rooms are "child-proofed" with safety latches and outlet covers. First aid kits are available in each room

-2 Adult Rule - every class will have at least 2 adult workers ALWAYS. Screened workers wear ID badges

The following information is posted in each Children's classroom:

-Tornado/fire emergency procedures (each room has a binder with each child's information if an emergency were to occur)

-Special needs lists for that classroom's students

-Medical/CPR certified helpers

-Roster of all children (printed 15 minutes after class/worship service has started) and their families security number.

-"Ouch" report forms for accidents
